Madison kept the Carl Sandburg College baseball team’s bats quiet Saturday afternoon, holding the Chargers to just one run on eight hits to sweep Sandburg 5-0 and 5-1 in its home opener at the William “Bill” Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.

Sandburg Standout
Righthander Turner Mann (Metamora, Ill./Metamora) settled in after the first, allowing just one run on two hits over his final five innings of work. Mann finished with seven strikeouts and walked three.

Trailing 3-0 in the fourth, the Chargers (0-8) put runners on second and third with one out behind a pair of walks and a wild pitch. A Hunter Darst (Avon, Ill./Abingdon-Avon) groundout got Sandburg on the board, but Austin Collinson (Normal, Ill./Normal West) flied to right to end the inning.
